In Like a Clown neemt een ogenschijnlijk eenvoudige lezing van twee geleerden al snel een onverwachte wending. Met een mix van fysieke expressie, muziek, tekst en projectie brengen Helena & Goos klassieke clownacts tot leven – en vervormen ze tegelijk.

De voorstelling beweegt tussen verleden en heden, vermengt culturele invloeden en theatrale technieken en duikt diep in de voortdurend veranderende identiteit van de clown. Helena & Goos creëren visueel-poëtische voorstellingen op het snijvlak van circus, theater en film.

From terrifying to superstar – in the opening performance Like a Clown, Helena & Goos bring the many guises of an iconic figure to life. This theatrical circus lecture is preceded by the State of the Circus, presented this year by circus maker Júlia Campistany.

In Like a Clown, a seemingly straightforward lecture by two scholars quickly takes an unexpected turn. Combining physical expression, music, text, and projection, Helena & Goos bring classic clown acts to life, while simultaneously distorting them.

The performance moves between past and present, blending cultural influences and theatrical techniques to delve into the ever-evolving identity of the clown. Helena & Goos create visually poetic performances at the crossroads of circus, theatre, and film.

Een man worstelt gelijktijdig met groei en verval. Zijn lichaam vecht om zichzelf te overstijgen: hij kan zijn eigen transformatie niet accepteren. Is vergankelijkheid echt onvermijdelijk?

In een combinatie van virtuoze lichaamsbeheersing en een kinetische installatie legt Camiel Corneille de dualiteit van zijn menselijkheid bloot: de voortdurende inspanning om te blijven presteren en de onvermijdelijke aftakeling die ermee gepaard gaat.

SENESCENCE is de wetenschappelijke term voor celveroudering en een poging van Camiel om een antwoord te vinden op het maakbaarheidsideaal van de samenleving. Ook artiesten worden ouder en dat heeft een impact als je werkt met je lichaam.

In a combination of virtuoso body control and a kinetic installation, Camiel Corneille exposes the duality of his humanity: the constant effort to keep performing and the inevitable decline that comes with it.

SENESCENCE is the scientific term for cellular aging and is Camiel’s attempt to question the ideal of social engineering. Artists also get older, and the impact is even bigger when your body is a large part of your artistic work.

The Kettle is Always On biedt een intieme, humorvolle blik op hoe we houvast zoeken in een chaotische wereld.

Twee zussen balanceren letterlijk en figuurlijk tussen hun gedeelde geschiedenis en persoonlijke verschillen. Met handstanden, acro-dans en subtiele ironie reflecteren ze op hun onconventionele opvoeding in een reizend circusgezin, waarin familiale rituelen houvast bieden. Soms tot het obsessieve toe.

In deze fysieke voorstelling gaan ze samen op zoek naar een gedeeld ritueel. Maar: wat als je daar elk iets anders onder verstaat? Waarom houden we zo hardnekkig vast aan die gewoontes? En hoe eren we de rituelen van de mensen die we liefhebben, zelfs als we ze niet helemaal begrijpen?

The Kettle is Always On offers an intimate and humorous look at how we search for a sense of grounding in a chaotic world.

Two sisters balance, both literally and figuratively, between their shared history and personal differences. Through handstands, acro-dance, and subtle irony, they reflect on their unconventional upbringing in a travelling circus family, where familial rituals provide comfort. Sometimes to the point of obsession.

In this physical performance, they search for a shared ritual. But what if each of them sees it differently? Why do we cling so persistently to our habits? And how do we honour the rituals of those we love, even when we don’t fully understand them? The performance will be preceded by a surprise act.

Op pulserende baslijnen bouwen haarhangers en koorzangers samen aan een spirituele microkosmos. Dit hedendaagse ritueel laat acht mystieke vrouwen uit de achtste tot de zestiende eeuw aan het woord. Wat maken de woorden van deze vrouwelijke geesten vandaag in ons wakker?

In deze beeldende en zintuiglijke voorstelling ontmoeten circus en muziektheater elkaar. Mystica is een zoektocht naar de verloren mystieke onderstroom – tussen licht en donker, tussen aarde en lucht. Geen vluchtweg, maar een krachtige, beeldende ervaring waarin samen zijn centraal staat.

To pulsating basslines, hair-hangers and choral singers together construct a spiritual microcosm. This contemporary ritual gives voice to eight mystic women from the eighth to the sixteenth century. What do the words of these female spirits awaken in us today?

In this visual and sensory performance, circus and music theatre converge. Mystica is a quest for the lost mystical undercurrent – between light and darkness, between earth and air. Not an escape, but a powerful visual experience that places togetherness at its core. The performance will be preceded by a surprise act.

CIRCUS KATOEN & GRENSGEVAL

Een massa witte keramische balletjes overweldigen twee acrobaten. De balletjes zijn verre van perfect: net niet helemaal rond, net allemaal ongelijk en vooral veel te veel. Ze rollen trommelend in het rond, springen alle kanten op, bruisen plots op in een mond of plakken onherroepelijk vast aan het plafond.

Met het publiek rondom creëren de spelers een muzikale circuscompositie. iRRooTTaa is een uitnodiging om niet alle ballen in de lucht te willen houden. Want de regels kunnen veranderen en wie weet wordt het spelen van het leven nog leuker als het af en toe tussen onze vingers glipt!

A mass of white ceramic balls overwhelms two acrobats. The balls are far from perfect: not quite round, all a little uneven, and above all far too many. They roll drumming across the floor, bounce in every direction, suddenly bubble up in a mouth, or stick irrevocably to the ceiling.

With the audience seated all around, two performers create a playful, musical circus composition. iRRooTTaa is an invitation not to try to keep all the balls in the air. Because the rules can change and who knows, maybe playing at life becomes even more fun when it slips through our fingers every now and then! The performance will be preceded by a surprise act.

TENT & Circuspunt nodigen alle deelnemers uit om hun visie en ervaringen over circus actief te delen in een ontspannen setting. Met gesprekken, workshops, een netwerklunch en performances ga je vol inspiratie naar huis.
